Ingredients:
6 Hovis slice white medium bread
Unsalted butter or margarine to spread
5 eggs
75g caster sugar
400mls whole milk
1tsp ground nutmeg + extra to sprinkle
150g sultanas or mixed fruits
Instructions:
Prepare the Bread:
Butter slices of bread right to the edges, including corners.
Do not grease the pan.
Layer the buttered bread in the dish, ensuring no overlapping.
Use plenty of mixed dried fruits (instead of just sultanas) and scatter some extra fruits on top.
Make the Custard:
In a bowl, whisk together, eggs, milk, sugar and ground nutmeg (you may add a bit more for stronger flavour)
Assemble:
Pour the custard evenly over the bread and fruit layers.
Sprinkle an additional ¼ tsp of nutmeg over the top.
Bake:
Bake at 160°C for 40 minutes.
